HOW IT FEELS TO BE COLORED ME

Living in East L.A. makes me feel very comfortable. I am 100% Mexican. I was born in Mexico and moved to the United States when I was three years old. I've been living in East L.A. all my life. Meaning I have been surrounded by Mexicans all my life. I see life here as a Mexican life but more modern and advanced. The Mexican culture is very well practiced here. For example, QuinceaƱeras are always practiced here. That is very good thing to be a part of. Weather your just a guest or you're part of the ceremony. All around here you see families getting together all the time. That feels really cool, because you're reminded that you're never alone. There are similar and different feelings when I am around Mexicans and when I'm not. When I'm around Mexicans I feel proud, comfortable, and part of a big family. When I'm not around Mexicans I still feel proud, I feel confident about myself, but I don't feel like part of a big family. Being born in Mexico makes me feel very proud of the obstacles I've faced adapting to a new country, where not everyone welcomes you. I feel like I've accomplished more in my life than some people that were born here. I wouldn't change being 100% Mexican.
