Cut Book Review
___
_____The book Cut by Patricia McCormick is a book about a 15 year old girl who is sent to a residential facility for teenagers who have serious health and psychological problems. The main character, Callie, has a problem with cutting herself. She believes that she is responsible for her brother’s illness and begins a course of self destruction, which leads her to be interned at Sea Pines, the psychiatric hospital. McCormick makes Callie’s character a very unique and mysterious character. The way that she writes about what Callie is thinking is amazing and makes the reader understand what she is feeling. This book captures everything that a self mutilator goes through.
________
_____Throughout the entire book, Callie hardly ever says a word. McCormick uses her good writing techniques to let us know why Callie cuts herself, through her internal dialogue. She lets the reader know how cutting herself is a result of her very damaged family. One of Callie’s major problems is that she doesn’t know how to express herself other than to cut herself. When she goes to the circle meetings, se stares out of the window and runs different things through her mind. She criticizes the other girls in the circle about their eating problems, like anorexia and overeating. She is afraid to open up to anyone because she thinks that she will be criticized the way she secretly criticizes others. Over time, she gets frequent visits from her family. That is the only day she looks forward to. Every time her brother goes to see her she feels bad and doesn’t know how to forgive herself. Through her counseling, she starts to find out that she isn’t the reason why her brother is ill, she learns that her dysfunctional family also plays a big role in it.

____
_____McCormick uses mysterious writing that makes the reader wonder what will happen next. Without giving us all of the details, she gives us a chance to wonder if her friends will ever help her get over her serious problem and also makes us realize that people who have these types of problems are very sensitive and need serious help. Cut is an amazing book that anyone can relate to.Itt was a pleasure reading this book.
