J. Rios, Per. 3

Option #1
Write a one or two paragraph reflection about what you learned as a human being from

reading Native Son.

The novel Native Son, by Richard Wright, it did have somewhat of an impact on my perspective of history. I learned that many African Americans were not rightfully given the opportunity to live like real human beings. They surly weren’t treated as equals, and less among the whites. They had to learn to live their lives as others wanted them to. It was a time when stereotypes were strongly accepted. You could have been walking down the street and seen two African Americans, one being a almost consider as part of the society, compared to another African American who comes from the poorest part of town and any white person would have seen them both the same. No respect for either of them and all this just because they were both black. It was literally one world divided, with the division showing the hate, greed, inequality, and racism of their time.

Final Writing Assingment - Native Son
Reading the book Native Son by Richard Wright, made me realize that African Americans living in the 1930's struggled alot just to make ends meet. People like bigger even took drastic meassures just to get money. I learned that they committed these crimes not because they enjoyed it, but because they wanted a better life for their families. They lived in a time when African Americans didn't have the same opportunities as the white men, therefore, making them unable to get decent jobs which will provide them with good pay. Eventhough these things happened a long time ago, some people are still being discriminated today. Not alot has changed over the years. I now understand why some people commit crimes today. They commit them because they too need money. It is their struggle to survive in this unforgiving world where people are still being discriminated.
